I had a bottle of 1948 whisky

Bottled in 2006 so 58 years old and I drank it in a few months. Not all old and rare whisky isn't for drinking...

I'd recommend getting some tasting sets from master of malt if you are interested in getting into whisky. Whisky exchange also have a good set of 20 whiskies that changed the world.

You'll need to work out your own taste of what you like and don't. Don't let other people tell you that you're wrong or be led into thinking older is necessarily better.

The English (from roudham) smoky whisky is really good in my opinion. The whisky shop in Norwich also has a bottle your own ledaig that I reckon would be very good.
