It's complicated isn't it.

I don't disagree with what we did last time out. We sold Godfrey and Lewis for a combined £40m by playing them. Todd and Aarons value went way up. Pukki deserved his chance. Krul was good enough. Our problem was through the spine all season and Webber accepted he got recruitment wrong.

We weren't good enough at the #10 (though I feel Stiepi was written off far too quickly)
We weren't good enough in the sitting two (our best options became Tettey and Kenny who were still short of what was required, Amadou should have been an option)
Centre back the injury problems cannot be ignored.

The post restart collapse does indicate Farke was perhaps unable to get any fight out of the squad.

While lots of the clubs you've mentioned do have rich owners... Sheffield United arguably overachieved with scrappy League 1/Champs players. They were starting Sharpe and McGoldrick last season FFS so it eventually caught up with them!

Brentford are doing fine so far. Leeds didn't exactly have a world class squad last year... One of their best is homegrown and they've built around him, then they spent lots on a few.

We've spent lots on non-football. Stuff which is fine as we've also now spent what feels like more this summer than all previous summers combined! Either Webber and his team are s**t at identifying the attributes needed or Farke is not getting the most out of them. It's one or the other... Worst case it's both.

Can it be neither? No.
