Was the system change unnecessary? In the last Prem season we were criticised for being too open and conceded far too many. We then started this season by conceding a bucketload. So there is logic in changing system, the problem is we don’t create anything while playing it and arguably the players we have in the squad don’t really suit the system. Where I would criticise Farke is the lack of some creative spark within the system.
I’d much rather we have a go and be more open, if only to feel like we might score and give ourselves a chance, but it will most likely leave us more vulnerable to the counter and we’ll continue to concede.
So we’re probably screwed either way, though at least with a 4-3-3 or 4-2-3-1 we might look more threatening. Or we might just continue to get smashed every week, which is the more likely scenario.
For the record i’m not trying to be a happy clapper - this season has been worse than dreadful and utterly soul-sapping, so something needs to change - just pointing out that there was some logic to the system change.
