I’ve been watching Josh Sargent

Tzolis skidded to his knees and slid to the fans with the first. Him and Bali made the devils horns to the cameras. Mclean struck one top bins, his chest proud toward the River End.

And in the background Josh Sergeant.

He’s behind Rupp too. His first professional goal.
Then his moment comes. Dowell, Tzolis and Sergeant. It tumbles in from his own.

He doesn’t know what to do.

For a brief moment we make eye contact and he looks away. He smiles. He is anxious. He gives the Barclay a fist.

Then it happens again. He wins the ball from the keeper, just like today against Brighton. He feeds Tzolis. Tzolis scores. Tzolis runs to him and jumps. He doesn’t know what to do. He hands floppy to the sides as Tzolis hugs him and screams. He is self-conscious. He doesn’t reciprocate.

Then Tzolis flicks to Sarge and he skilfully flicks it from behind. He rolls into the net with the ball and he freezes again. He doesn’t know what to do. He is self-conscious and frozen and Tzolis (the assist) reels away in celebration.

What we have is a very good player. A shy one too.
He needs confidence and the city crowd.

OTBC. Viva Josh Sargent
