Didn't actually make contact with the keeper, and in any case he had a right to go for the ball as it was loose in the penalty area. And it wasn't dangerous.
The ref was swayed by the booing of Ashton by the Boro fans, he probably thought "I'd better book him or it'll be me they're booing".
I've got a mate who's a Boro fan and he was at the game, sent me a text saying the ref was a disgrace and biased against Boro. Have to say that from my angle (on the sofa) he seemed to get everything pretty much right (except the Ashton booking), the "penalties" were both outside the box, and Yakubu got penalised a lot but he was fouling a lot too.
I don't think the Schwarzer / Ashton injury was intentional either, you could see that Ashton was going for the ball, and if anything Schwarzer moved into him.
