You’re right of course that a team that wins is more likely to have players that will make it.

However, if we could choose between having a team that wins all its matches (Inc the league or cup) but doesn’t produce any first team players and a side that loses all its games and produces the next Craig Bellamy and Ben Godfrey, it’s obvious which is preferable.
