Techie help please!

I'm running AVG anti virus with Thunderbird email.

Problem is that when I try to collect new emails, my AVG anti virus kicks in, saying its doing something or other. It then takes ages before telling me that my bt connection is timed out - hence I get no email.

Will I have to disable to AVG email scanner and if so, how do I do it?

Any ideas? First correct reply gets a night of pent up lust and passionate desire with FP.
