The death penalty doesn't act as a deterrent and there is the risk of killing the innocent

Most of the prison thing should be about redemption, reform, rehabilitation or you get recidivism, recidivism, recidivism. Obviously and rightly there's a big punitive element - imagine being locked in your own bathroom 23h a day, yes with a telly and maybe a book and some writing materials, for months let alone years and it's clear that's pretty punitive, and honestly rightly so.

However for someone like this where the crime is beyond disgusting and there's no doubt at all that he did it whole life seems appropriate and I must confess I would shed no tears were something to happen to him inside. That's a fault in me, but it is what it is.

I could still never support state-sanctioned killing, not even of him, partly but not wholly because sometimes the wrong people get convicted, though clearly not in this particular case.
