in both directions. Federer, Nadal, Djokovic - Serena Williams all know that they can win, and all of them always expect to win.

In an individual sport that's a major thing - as it plays on the opponent's mind too and amplifies the effect.

I reckon the all round coaching (including on the mental aspects of it) has improved massively over the last decade - all the top 200 will be working on all aspects of their game, from an early age, and to that end I think it'll be harder for any one player to dominate.
