yep - that is interesting

probably because I always assumed that what they're doing would be broadly how coaching in professional sport worked.

(At a high level in any field you wouldn't expect any one person to have all bases covered and often the people who do the stuff best can be pretty poor at explaining what they do to others (whereas people who've had to work at it can have a better insight or approach, having walked that path))

Sport coaching being what it is, I'd be gobsmacked if what they're doing is particularly new - it feels to me like one of those reverse reasoning exercises in which you look at someone successful and work backwards, ignoring the many, many people who have done similar stuff but for whom it hasn't had the same impact.
