so we’ve adopted her as a temporary national hero, haven’t we

people who don’t even watch tennis referring to her on first name terms, profiles of her parents, non sports tv programmes interviewing her school teachers etc.

Until she loses, at which point the media and lots of media consumers will immediately be at best indifferent, and at worst hostile (if for some reason journalists decide she’s Let People Down).

Oh well, enjoy the show I suppose
