Also not convinced that a direct Skipp replacement is the plan with the new formation/midfield either.

Rashica/PLM/Tzolis all have McLean-esque retention stats, though much of that still depends on the passing to release the press after the initial retention. It'll take a while for the midfield to be in tune.

Strongly suspect that the idea is that the whole midfield is meant to be more robust - as piling pressure on (even) Skipp or the like at Prem level seems risky. If Normann has dislocated his shoulder, then that line would seem to be dead, but also flags that anyone we bring in could get wiped out early.

Don't get me wrong, I agree it is a key role to strengthen, I just think there's more subtlety to how we've planned to address the issues there than just dropping a bruiser into that space.
