So regardless of system, it’s the players. If they won’t follow instruction in a 4-3-3 they won’t in a 4-4-2, a 5-3-2 or a 3-4-3. But I doubt they are Mavericks. They just need time.

Also in the few friendlies we had, in which PLM, Dimi, gilmour, Gibson and rashica had limited minutes and hanley none. And even then we played 5-3-2, 3-4-2-1 as well as 4-3-3. The entire team needs practice in a new system they’ve not had enough time to work in yet. A few are settling into a new country and / or new team. And a bunch even missed lots of training sessions because of COVID let alone friendlies.

Give them a break. On the back of that very limited prep time they just played two of the best three sides in the country, both at least top ten in Europe.
