Yanks might also use it, but they also use, for e.g. "porridge", but useage of "porridge" is perfectly acceptable.

Granted if they had conspired to horribly mispronounce "Yay!" ("missile" not "missle", "aluminium" not "aluminum") your point would be valid, genuine and tip-top, but they don't, to the best of my knowledge.

So, therefore, I contend, that we shouldn't allow Yank appropriation of our exultations to prejudice our exultatory choices.
