There are all manner of reasons why it is the case, including some of those you mentioned and also because maybe it gets tougher when you try to move up to the next level of player.
Webber clearly specialises in recruitment on the level you need to win promotion to the premier league but last couple of seasons I feel we’ve (rightly) been trying to push on and recruit players who would be able to contribute at a premier league level, and consequently it’s harder to find those at bargain prices.
I’m pleasantly surprised by mumba. He seems to have handled the step up very well for a young lad and I wouldn’t be terrified if he has to replace aarons (or even giannoulis) at some point. Sorensen might be good value too but I can’t remember what we paid for him. I thought it was considerable?
The academy side is still doing well, but we can see the Norwich model for direct first team ready players is much more difficult to execute when you want to take the quality up to the next notch.
