I also remember him saying one thing to the fans, manager and players and selling them out behind their backs.

Plenty of interviews with players from the time complaining at how he ran the place.

Point me in the direction of an article /interview which puts the other side. Genuinely interested.

His sporadic rep as a good guy among some supporters seems based on no more than we did okay under his tenure (it's arguable even then that the extensive groundwork was laid prior to his ownership)
