I think he's got a clear plan of how he wants the squad to play.
I'm confused by the squad he selected for the tournament (with that in mind).
There's crucial positions which seem light on backup/alternatives. There's a lack of experience/savvy in the group which I suspect will hold us back. In old parlance this would be called 'leaders'. Again, some players are growing into these roles, but it'll take a while and the senior players (Sterling excepted) aren't really stepping up to the plate (for me)
As I'm not particularly invested in this one way or another, I'm not trying to be deliberately negative or obtuse - just feel that the overconfidence is a bit misplaced. Kudos to Southgate he managed the game well yesterday - pretty encouraging, but I'll hang fire from declaring him a tactical genius just yet...
All just opinions naturally :)
