I don't remember us playing with any great freedom in the 2018 WC

I think expectations were just a lot lower then, after the shambles before that.

We thrashed Panama. Other than that it was a bit of a grind, as I remember it (as tournaments mostly are, for most teams). Defeat to Belgium, best Colombia on penalties, finally get past Sweden, lose to Croatia. There wasn't that much joyful football, as I recall it.
