With the class thing, you might be right, in that
Coldplay - Wishy washy lyrics that mean nothing, yet are supposed to mean everything. Pretense to the max. Which to me equates to, we have wealth and nothing to write about so lets use clocks and scientists and the bigger picture to create a crescendo of feeling about very little
At the other end of the scale you get The Streets - A load of tough talking hard living lyrics about taking drugs, drinking loads and fancying birds
Neither are very inspiring at all
Equally though, your rant about liking little known music cos its cool, is a load crap. Not just because I like a load of little known music, its because radio stations and record companies are scared that the simple people of Britain won't understand music thats different so they carry on with the drearyness that sells, and they are right to do so, cos its a safe sell
Its exactly the same in the cinema, there are better films to watch all year round by younger writers but its safer for the industry to promote a rubbish sequel, or re do an old film cos they know it will bring in the crowds
