slang term "baller"

seems to be in vogue these days...

I'm presuming it's not from the 18thC term around someone who attends balls (hedonism).

Maybe the cocaine dealer term (balls of cocaine, worked his way up from the bottom)?

Or that he just has big balls?

Are people using it just to mean someone who is tough?

Whichever way, of all the ways to describe Emi, I'm not sure it's high up my list.
