Villa were probably aware that if they matched their bid someone like Arsenal might be more attractive to Emi so they've paid us a premium to take Arsenal out of the equation (also, no way were Arsenal going to pay much cash up front - they won't be getting cash from their owner to enable that, they'd want it spread over a long period)
