Firstly that’s a big assumption

For a player who has 3 more years on his contract.

I’d imagine if we refused to sell him because the timing is not right he may have a strop like the start of last season and then realise he’s playing in the premier league, he’s with us for another three years and he’s a professional footballer so he’d knuckle down. He’s said repeatedly recently how happy he is at the club.

What would he have to gain from playing badly or going on strike?

And to be honest if he tears up the prem and then someone comes in and bids an acceptable sum for him then it’s a bit different but the timing of selling now is dreadful.
