I think he's done pretty much exactly what most of his predecessors have done

qualified easily, got past weak teams in knockout games, lost to the first decent team we faced.

All this is based on a sample of one tournament, so I'm not writing him off at all. He might do something we haven't done for ages and actually win a tough knockout match.
He just hasn't yet, exactly as his predecessors didn't.
