Its a really difficult one isn;t it. When they talk about parachute payments they

tend to completely gloss over/ignore the fact that the teams that have parachute payments have them because they earnt them through promotion.

Us and Watford have not necessarily bounced back this year just because we have parachute payments. We have done so because we have better players and are a better team than other teams and in some cases (although less so us than Watford) thats because we were a premier league team as well as the fact we built this team over a number of seasons. Ok having parachute payments perhaps enablked us to keep one or two more of those players than we might otherwise but they are not the reason we had them in the first place.

Abolishing parachute payments would basically make it absolutely impossible for a team like us to compete when we get into the premier league. Its incrediblky hard as it is but no player is going to sign for us if they have a 75% wage reduction on relegation as that boffin suggests or if they do then we will have to have release clauses meaning we get no money for them.
