the russians is a cultural reference to the movie burn after reading (spoiler)

at the end of the film in osbourne cox's handler palmer has to brief the cia director when asked "so, what have we learned?" and cited "the russians" as being involved, the bemused director rejoinders with "the russians?" summing up the entire nonsense of the movie. and the magpie slash wallpaper thread.
