Sounds a mess

36 teams - a single league stage with all participating teams - every club guaranteed at least 5 home and 5 away - top 8 automatically qualify and then some sort of playoff.

Finding it quite hard to picture how that all slots together.

Still suffers from there being too many games and the likelihood that quite a lot won't feel terribly urgent.

In fairness, I'm not the target audience - I used to enjoy watching the cup winners cup (the arsenal runs in the 90s were interesting). But the current setup just seems an endless grind of moneymaking ties designed to make lots of TV revenue and ensure that quirky results don't derail the top sides from getting through to the latter stages.

Dull.

It's the quirky results I (as a neutral) tune in for.
