There's been loads of people (like Atherton)

Talking about reducing the number of counties to drive up competitiveness for years.

This worries me as maybe setting a dangerous precedent. The last thing we need to be doing is reducing the pool of pro cricketers/clubs.

Like you say, it seems to be filling a niche that was already filled (maybe repackaging, remarketing it a little).

I reckon having three tier competitions with one up one down would help to reduce the number of matches, but make each game count more.
