Pretty much the same happened to my brother last night

Plumber he called (a mate) told him to check the condenser pipe/outlet. It had frozen up/got leaves stuck in it. Some hot water from the kettle on the pipe later and a massive icicle slid out. Boiler now igniting and working perfectly
