Generally agree with you that the board are like a political party - they're not going to make everything crystal clear in public.

And I think the main reason that the board haven't sacked Nigel yet is because his track record IS actually mostly quite good, beyond the fact that they probably like him on a personal level. If they do still have faith in him they're (in my opinion) misguided, but I don't begrudge them that faith (at least not much).
