I think you made my point for me without realizing it.

Every team (just outside the top six) that drops points. Makes their chances of catching the top 2 closer to zero.
As we progress we will hopefully eliminate more and more teams giving us a greater and greater chance of promotion.
Currently we have an estimated 80%+ chance of promotion via the autos or playoffs.
