May I just say that I didn't even use the term...

And for some reason I am defending jimbo/jonah even though I can have no way of telling whether their comments were meant to cause offence or not.

Now call me stupid, because I thought the term half cast was somehow interlinked with casting a shadow.

If you cast a shadow on something it goes darker/black. And the term half-cast meant that the particular person was somewhere between dark coloured and light.

Probably a very primary school way to look at it, but that's how I thought it worked! :-/
