The shelves won't be bare simply because of brexit...and chances are there will be more cod. Have you seen how much salted cod there is in Spanish/Portuguese supermarkets???
I know it's not all about food but I for one would be happy to eat seasonal British food based on availability and, when I want a change, I'll pay for it.
I lived in Tokyo for years and they eat much more of their 'own' food, and imported goods are expensive, so treated as a luxury.
£7 for a parsnip at Christmas anyone? (One parsnip)
£8 for a small jar of marmite
£5 for a box of Weetabix
I've bought all of these as a treat but mostly you end up eating rice, fish, etc.
