but it does strike me as ironic that in re thespianism, women have given up the word that distinguished them, in favour of the word that had come to apply to men (thus, why not call fisherwoman, fishermen). There is nothing offensive or inaccurate about the word actress - it means female actor. It is true that for example, female doctors are called doctors, as are male doctors, but utterly, entirely irrelevant; it just reflects a different historical development.
