Sunshine, beaches, beer, etc. You'd hate it :-P
Saw the family and most of my mates, showed the Ms. around some of the better touristy bits in the North Island . I think she likes it, although she seems to have developed peculiar fixations on some of the wildlife (pukekos, kiwis, pongas, etc.). Spent some time on my brother's boat and did some sailing. Surprisingly, grandfather and cat are both still alive and in very good condition for their respective ages (88 and 147). I would have liked to see a bit more of my mates, but with one thing and another, we weren't in town too much, and not everyone was available when we were.
We went via LAX, a total of 26 hours. Despite the fact you never leave internationally-neutral territory, the Yanks make you fill out a form (Containing questions like "Are you involved in espionage or terrorism?", I s**t you not!), stand in a queue for over an hour to pass them said form, then queue to get back on the bloody plane. I wasn't a terrorist when I arrived, but by Christ I was pretty keen on bombing the bastards after that little lot!
And isn't it nice to be back in sunny England? We got back on Saturday evening, and were astonished to see the sun (It was snowing when we left!). Oh and as a welcome-home on Monday? I get to work and find I've got a pay rise. The Ms. gets to work and finds that suddenly she has to go to Grimsby - Fucking GRIMSBY! - for the week. Cosmic.
