They're bottom of the xG table for goals scored but about 11th in terms of points

Their defence has been excellent and their attack has so far been clinical, even if they don't create much.
Incidentally last season Forest spent most of the season in the bottom 6 in the xG table, despite being in the top 6 in the actual one, so maybe their late collapse wasn't as surprising as it seemed. They were just finally getting the results they'd been deserving all along.
