I think the revisionism is mostly about his defensive work

he's being portrayed as some kind of a luxury player. Someone who kind of strolls about and is good on the ball, but doesn't put in the hard yards. But he actually topped our running stats for last season. In fact, he was one of the players in the whole Premier League who covered the most ground:

The reason he is not in the team now is nothing to do with his ability or because other players are 'more solid'. It's clearly just because he has fallen out with Farke. But, given that he's now our player for the next few months, it would surely be beneficial if both men could put their egos aside and get him back involved.
