I think there is a lot of revisionism about his performances

people forgetting just how good he was when he first came in on loan, and then in the promotion season.

Probably because the last time we saw him play, he was getting bullied a bit in the Prem. But he was far from alone in that. And, to be honest, it's a bit disrespectful to a key player in our recent success, to be claiming that he wasn't actually ever that good.

He also was actually pretty good defensively in the Championship. He broke up play regularly and had solid positioning; probably as effective as Rupp is at that side of the game.
