This is my first post for several weeks and will be my last this season. I do not consider that my views carry any more wight than those of many other excellent 'citizen journalists' on this board although I do think they are always considered and respectful unlike some of the more unfortunate and sometimes rather 'excited' views expressed on WotB - but, let's be honest, we all care and sometimes passions run high.
Well, to the Board I say this:
You've proved that you will not bow to public outcry, you've proved to us all that you care about the club and that you are financially capable and sensible - and for those qualities we admire you and trust you.
We (and I think I speak for most NCFC supporters) also recognise that stability is important in any football club and ten managers in ten years or some such is just stupid. Again you are to be admired for the way that you have sought stability and through it brought NCFC some (albeit rather short-lived) success on the field.
However, now is the time to take stock. You gave Nigel Worthington his first real break in management and he took advantage. Now is not the time to go into the hows and whys of that, whether or not he was lucky etc. BUT it is clear to us (and I feel sure to you all, as you also sit and watch the team play - appallingly away and, I'm afraid, rather dully at home) that he has
done all he can and, rather sadly, I suppose, he has run out of ideas.
Please do not think that we don't appreciate what he has done, or indeed what a genuine fellow he is ( a rarity in professional football these days!) but you have to recognise somebody's limitations when they so clearly stare you in the face. Mr. Worthington might well prove to be an astute manager with another Championship club at another time but he has had his chance here and we've all just reached the point where enough is enough. We simply MUST not begin next season with the possibility of more Carrow Road atmospheres like those we have witnessed in recent weeks. We need some life, some colour, some exuberance, some energy. These are not going to come from Messrs. Worthington, Foley and Livermore! Sorry, but you KNOW that's true!
So let's see the season out but don't string us along anymore. The summer is the right time to make the change and you know that is true. All supporters groups will be happy with that timing and I suppose whatever demotivated performances we have to put up with before then cannot be any worse than what we've seen already.
Disappointed as I was by the comments of Messrs. Skipper, Munby and even Delia and MW-J a week or three ago I believe that they were keeping up a brave face while the very outside chace of the play-offs existed (again showing great faith in Mr. Worthington) but now we all know that's not going to happen, let's do the right thing.
NCFC is not about ruthlessness and wielding the axe - we all know that- but you, the Board, breathed life back into this club and now is not the time to allow sentimentality to squeeze that life out again.
COME ON! MAKE THE CHANGE THIS SUMMER AND PRESERVE YOUR STATUS AND RESPECT. YOU WILL NOT BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY IF YOU CONTINUE TO INFLICT UPON US ALL THE LEVEL OF UGLY PERFORMANCE WE HAVE HAD TO ENDURE SINCE AUGUST.
