In other word, this is Woodward's spinner trying to deflect criticism.
Hard not to conclude therefore that someone working at Man United deliberately, falsely briefed The Athletic about the contents of the meeting to make Ed Woodward look good, deflecting attention from his vote. We understand that clubs will brief journalists, but...
...one has to wonder if it's appropriate for Man U to have someone who appears to have lied to the press seemingly for the primary purpose of making Ed Woodward look good, even more than for the benefit of the club.
