RE Gordon Bennett

A relative of mine knew Gordon when they were youths. He would ride a bicycle tooting a horn so much that they called him Honker.

He would lead the signing, honk his horn at matches and help Bristol Rvs in any way that he could. He won a national newspaper competition as football fan of the year. He gave the prize money to Bristol Rovers.

I seem to remember that Gordon gave up his Norwich City company car to help the club save money. He often used to get the bus instead. I sometimes used to see him taking the Norwich City postage in a very old mini Metro car to the sorting office.

He had a quirky sense of humor and didn't take himself too seriously. I guess you'd need to be like that being called Gordon Bennett. He could make you laugh with just a look. I can remember his secretary at Norwich telling me he was great to work with.
