Yeah and I get that too.

And like you my gut feeling is we probably should locked down sooner.

Ultimately we don't really know either way right now though. I remember at the time there was mention that we could only cope as a nation with lockdown psychologically for a period of time (and we have seen that) and that locking down too soon might actually cause greater issues longer term (i.e. people saying "screw it, I'm going out" too soon). Similar to mask usage which aren't acceptable to our culture, so had to role it out slowly.

All that might be bulls**t, but since those saying these things are the CMO & Sage rather than the government themselves I tend to believe thats the advice that was being given.
