I am aware of that guidance

And as I am not a medical doctor I will steer clear of advising what medication / supplements anyone should take.

To simplify/summarise, one group of covid patients admitted to a hospital in Spain were given a Vitamin D boost and one group weren't. Of the group which did not get the boost, 50% ended up in ICU. Of the group that did get the vitamin D boost, 2% ended up in ICU.

The sample size was, in my view, far too small but the clarity and significance of the result is so evident I see why it got through peer review so rapidly.

There is clearly a risk balance. Too much Vitamin D can be bad for you so I understand the caution. It just seems to me like the evidence is clearly building to support advice to adjust the non-pandemic advice in the light of recently published research.
