But also the single minded determination that made him a great striker would likely make him a terrible manager where he has to empathise with, motivate, cajole, bollock different types of people and players.
He's never struck me as much of a leader on the pitch (preferring to limit his interaction with others to constantly whinging to the ref). His TV punditry doesn't suggest that he's any great thinker about the game either, although I confess that I tend to let my mind wander when he's on - I suspect players would have a similar attitude.
