I know s'one who had it

but his girlfriend didn't, despite close contact (until he isolated) - its transmission is not completely inevitable (tho having said that, I spose she might have had it but shown no symptoms ..). Part of why it's hard to get any accurate figures about it and its dangers, unless you test pretty much everyone.
