That's because xG is bollocks.

If a team is ahead in an actual match - not an xG match - is it going to think "oh no, we're behind on xG! Attack attack attack!"

No. It'll probably concede possession and sit deep. Might even concede chances. Which add to the opponents' xG. It's ridiculous.

There is no such thing as 'expected goals'. There's just goals. xG has Man City above Liverpool FFS. When in practice, there's a bigger gap between them than between the Queen and Meghan Markle.
