I went to see An Evening with Glenn Hoddle

in Swindon last night. Great evening with so many great stories about when he was at Spurs, Monaco, Chelsea, Swindon and as England manager and he touched on his singing career with Chris waddle too lol. But the first thing this legend said was 'he made his debut at White Hart Lane as an 18 year old against Norwich' which got a loud shout from me (I'm still flying the canary flag in Swindon) and he went on to say that when he came on at half time he came up against the bigger legend the great man himself Duncan Forbes. He said he went straight up for a corner and collided with big Dunc with Duncan getting covered in blood from a broken nose. The Spurs players told hoddle to play in midfield to stop causing trouble up front and that's where his midfield career started. Yes we launched his midfield career. Glenn also told a funny story about Gazza. In '98 as England manager, England needed to draw with Italy in Rome to qualify for World Cup. Paul ince needed stitches in a head injury after 20 mins. 7 mins later he returned with a huge white bandage on his head. Gazza ran across the pitch to ince and said in front of hoddle and in a broad geordie accent 'you look like a pint of Guinness man'. Classic gazza. He couldn't get away with that now but what a great story. Sorry for the long post but great evening for any football fan.
