The alternative was to do a Villa who must be facing potential bankruptcy in the Championship - both on their expenditure and the wages they must have paid to recruit. And Bournemouth will be in a similar position when they go down - part of Howe's problem is that he has made several big signings that haven't delivered.

So, on balance, I'm happy to recruit loanees now and test them in readiness for next season. Frankly if next season in the Champs is half as good as last season - then am I really that fussed about the Premier League in any case?!
