whatever phone cameras can do is completely irrelevant

Premier League games are shot at 50fps and VAR uses that. Theoretically therefore it has inaccuracy of up to 40cm.

In reality the margin for error will much more commonly be in the 10-20cm range. Which is still incredibly significant when they are giving calls based on a few cms either way.

It's not even close to being reliable for such marginal calls.
