There's a quite hideous cruelty about all this. We're so competitive in so many areas... but not quite enough. Aarons, Pukki and Krul have all been outstanding this season; so, in a really surprising way, has Cantwell.
But then Trybull sells the jerseys, or Stiepermann just has no conviction, or the central defence parts like the seas... And none of that's anyone's fault. Everyone's giving their all; everyone's completely committed, despite playing so open kinda inviting where we find ourselves.
The decision to disallow Pukki's goal was outrageous. A joke. But we're not where we are because of officials. We're where we are because we have the poorest owners in the league. That makes it fantastically hard. But stick together, spend a bit in the summer, push on and we can bounce straight back. No doubt.
Today, we matched a top 6, maybe top 4 side ultimately, who played in the Champions League Final 7 months ago, for heaven's sake. There's plenty to be proud of - but plenty to learn too.
PS. Max Aarons. Absolutely magnificent footballer. The boy is awesome.
