Not "wise" words at all. I think they are negative and highly demotivating, but....

....quite likely realistic unfortunately. I remember 73/74 and it wasn't fun. To know you are most likely going down a few months ahead of it becoming mathematical is not nice. Better by far to at least be somewhat competitive before the inevitable happens. I would love to see us make a much better fist of the 2nd half of the season, but see 38 points as being the likely minimum required this year and we won't get near that I fear. Also inevitably we will lose most of the squad if we go down. The young English players will be poached to the likes of Bournemouth and Burnley and our Europeans will head off as squad members to the mid table sides in the top leagues of Germany, Spain and Italy. We might be well off, but quite likely we won't have a team. Depressing....

Really do need to give it a proper go from now on but fear it is too late.
